Senior Advisor - Islands, Indigenous and International Issues National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Ocean Service (NOS), Office for Coastal Management (OCM). Bill has served in his current position since 2009. HIs previous positions include the first Director of NOAA’s Pacific Services Center (PSC - 2002-2009); various leadership positions at the University of Hawai'i (1990-2002) working for the VP for Academic Affairs and the VP fot University and Community Relations, NOAA’s National Marine Sanctuary Program (1980-1990) and the University of Hawai`i Sea Grant College Program (1978-1980) In 1990, Bill moved back home and was appointed senior program officer in the Office of the A graduate of Kamehameha Schools (Class of ’69), he also has undergraduate and graduate degrees in biology, ecology and population genetics and has done research in Hawai'i, American Samoa, California, Washington State, Massachusetts, Florida and New Hampshire focused on the impacts of human and climate-induced degradation, invasive species and population genetics of endemic marine and estuarine plants, invertebrates and fish. Bill’s passions include baseball (as player- through college, coach and now spectator), riding his road bikes, free diving, playing his guitars whenever he has time, spending time with the family’s amazing canine 'ohana members Maluhia and ‘Aka pa’ani, researching his family’s genealogies and spending time with his and his wife’s granddaughter, ‘Ailā Kalae’ula.
